Founder Kevin Si Receives the Dr. Alan Cheung Scholarship for Leadership

Founder of Project Pyxis Kevin Si was honored with the Dr. Alan Cheung Community Leadership Scholarship this past Saturday for his achievements at Project Pyxis and more.

The Dr. Alan Cheung Scholarship serves to honor the exemplary public service legacy of Dr. Alan Cheung, Montgomery County Public Schools’ first Asian American board member and Congressional Fellow. The Chinese-American student leaders recognized by this award are strong examples of the service, commitment, and leadership Dr. Cheung embodies.

Kevin is incredibly thankful and honored to be able to receive this distinction among his peers, recognizing that the discourse caused by Project Pyxis has made a clear impact on his community but also acknowledging the vast steps Project Pyxis must take to make his county a “0 overdose statistic.” During his acceptance speech, Kevin directly addressed Project Pyxis and the growing youth opioid crisis across secondary schools in his speech, urging hundreds of community members and his peers to “take action against this crisis before it is too late.”

Speaking with Dr. Alan Cheung after the presentation, Kevin went over the dire need to address the opioid crisis and discussed with him his ideas going into 2024 and 2025 for Montgomery County Public Schools.

After this award ceremony, Kevin is optimistic for the future. He believes that with collaboration from MCPS, the Chinese-American Parents Association (CAPA) of Montgomery County, and the Montgomery Goes Purple Coalition, the future for a public school system with zero youth fatal overdoses is very, very close to fruition.
